ITAR

What is ITAR?

ITAR stands for International Traffic in Arms Regulations and is administered by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) of the State Department. The ITAR was established under the Arms Export Control Act of 1976, which authorizes the president to control the import, export, and brokering of defense articles and defense services and requires registration of U.S. manufacturers, exporters, and brokers of defense articles. ITAR controls apply not only to physical products on the USML but also to services, software and technical data related to the device.
